Mud flows in southwestern Utopia Planitia, Mars

چکیده
Landforms with characteristic flow-like morphology are distributed across the southwestern portion of Utopia Planitia, Mars. Although some features have previously been interpreted as mud flows associated a former presence partly frozen muddy ocean based on their morphologies and similarities terrestrial analogues (Ivanov et al., 2014, Icarus 228; Ivanov 2015, 248), such interpretations remain ambiguous. This is because a) evidence supporting an has disputed by many, b) models evolution Planitia do not sufficiently explain emplacement mechanisms landforms, c) no in-situ measurements available to confirm sedimentary origin. Here we present results mapping exercise that focused field flow-related landforms spread ∼ 500 × 1300 km large area centered around Adamas Labyrinthus in attempt provide additional insight about formation mechanism. We mapped distribution 312 edifices classified them areal extent, shape, morphological properties. assert these can be grouped into four classes distinct shapes sizes. Their consistent ascent subsequent movement liquid over Martian surface. interpret evolutionary sequence among differences explained different effusion rates source material duration discharge at time emplacement. As result our analysis considering previous studies focusing interest, propose all >300 studied were formed subsurface sediment mobilization likely originated from same area. Consequently, argue for body within this region past. Finally, note there several unconsidered sequences events which could resulted sedimentary-volcanic activity Labyrinthus.

Deep Craters on Mars Page 1 Deep Impact Craters in the Isidis and Southwestern Utopia Planitia Regions of Mars: High Target Material Strength as a Possible Cause,
Using THEMIS, MOC and MOLA data, we have found 120 craters in the diameter range 6 11.2 km that have unusually high depth/diameter (d/D) ratios (i.e., 0.0012) within southwestern Utopia Planitia and Isidis Planitia, Mars (Figure 1). Previous studies [1, 2, 3] noted a concentration of deep simple craters located mainly in SW Utopia Planitia suggesting that the deep simple craters could be caused...

متن کاملMars: Dust Devil Tracks in Hellas Basin and Argyre Planitia
Introduction: Dust devils on Mars could be an important mechanism for delivery of dust into the Martian atmosphere. Suspended dust in the Martian atmosphere is observed to be ~1-2μm in diameter [1,2,3] and calculations of fall-out rate [4,5] imply an ongoing supply of this fine dust to the atmosphere. Laboratory wind tunnel experiments [6,7], however, suggest that entrainment of fine dust into ...

Iran's mud volcanoes are clearly visible on the coastal plains of the Oman and Caspian Seas. There are 30 Gatan Mud Volcanoes located in the southeast of Iran: 15 of which are located between Jask and Minab in Hormozgan province, nine are between Chabahar and Jask Ports, and another six are between Chabahar and the Iran-Pakistan border in Sistan and Balouchestan Province. After some studies and...

Introduction: One of the most prominent features of Mars is the global south to north slope of ~0.036° [1] discovered by analysis of data from the Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter (MOLA) aboard Mars Global Surveyor. In contrast, Isidis Planitia, the floor of Isidis basin, slopes southwest at an angle of ~0.02° [2]. It has been suggested [3] that deflection of the lithosphere under a load located in...
